During a Wizz Kids session 50 - 60 children are enthralled and entertained for about three hours of
different activities.  They are divided into groups by age, with each group having its own area
and adult leaders.

Craft

About 40 minutes is devoted to making something which the children then take home. The children work in their groups assisted by the group helpers, and usually guided by a worked example. Kites are a great success, as are masks. Sometimes the whole of a group gets together to make one thing. In 2008 each group made a dragon.

Some years ago, it was a hand-cart.

Films

We watch about 15 minutes of a film each day, and the excitement grows every time. Silent and in rapt attention to the story, the children groan as the lights go on. “No more until tomorrow? How can we wait?”

The actual film is followed by a short discussion about what happened.

Games

Burning off energy in the sports field and having fun with our friends.

Games last for about 40 minutes, usually in teams or divided by ages.

Helpers take a full part in ensuring that everyone enjoys themselves.

Puppets

Rosie and Wizzy are firm favourites with the children - Oh yes they are!

There are usually two short puppet shows, each of around 5 minutes.

The puppets set the scene for the theme of the day, in a humorous way.

Songs

Songs are active and noisy – and come up frequently in the breaks between other parts of the programme!

The music usually comes from a CD, and the children are soon joining in with the actions.

Adults join in too...

Story

Each day we read a story from the bible, related to the theme of the day. Then we take 10 minutes or so to investigate its practical application. Usually this means doing something active by way of illustration.

The children love to take part.

Snack

After all the exercise of the games, 5 to 10 minutes of quiet time with a drink and a biscuit helps them all to recover their energy.

The snack is provided for each child - taking any reported allergies into account.

Safety

The safety of the children is a prime concern. Helpers are cleared to work with children, using Diocesan procedures.

A rigorous passport-oriented checking system ensures that children are registered on arrival and only collected by authorised adults.

Accidents are rare during the week due to the good staff-to-child ratio. The nearby surgery is alert to our possible needs.
